Simple insulation engine box of boat or yacht

Are you looking for advice on insulating the engine compartment of your boat or yacht and which materials you should use for this? We are happy to assist you with practical tips and the right material choices. Read here what you can do.

    Minimizing sound leaks

Motor boxes are often made of lightweight materials such as plastic or wood, which allows them to transmit sound more easily to the environment.

It is important to avoid sound leaks as much as possible. By sealing the hatch with rubber, you close gaps and prevent sound leaks. For ventilation openings, you can place a labyrinth made of absorbing foam, which makes it harder for sound to escape.

    Improving airborne sound insulation

Improve the sound insulation of the enclosure by installing soundproofing plates on the walls and the flap or roof. We recommend EASYmass soundproofing mass plates for this purpose. These increase the insulation value and block sound more effectively.

Applying sound-absorbing material in the engine compartment

If the sound insulation of the walls and roof is good, we recommend placing sound-absorbing material in the engine compartment. This prevents sound from reflecting within the compartment. We recommend using EASYfoam PU or FireSeal HR as suitable absorption material.

These foams are equipped with a moisture- and oil-repellent top layer. For extra strength, FireSeal HR is often chosen, which also has a white top layer that lightens the engine compartment. Ensure that all measures taken do not obstruct the air intake and exhaust of the engine, so the engine always receives sufficient air.

    This is what you need

Do you want to reduce the noise from your engine compartment and increase the insulation value? Then use EASYmass sound insulating mass panels to effectively block sound.

If you also want to dampen the noise in the engine compartment, use absorption materials such as Fireseal HR for optimal sound absorption.

    Insulation of the engine compartment

To reduce noise pollution in the engine compartment or machinery space, it is essential that all walls and hatches are thoroughly insulated. By carefully sealing gaps and openings, you prevent sound leakage and thereby the spread of sound to other parts of the boat.
