Acoustic insulation
Acoustic insulation, also known as sound insulation, is the process of applying materials and techniques to reduce the transmission of sound between spaces. This can pertain to both the intrusion of unwanted sounds from outside and the prevention of sound transfer between internal spaces.
What is acoustic insulation?
Acoustic insulation includes measures that improve the acoustics in a space by reducing sound transmission. This can be achieved by using sound-absorbing materials and structures that dampen sound waves and minimise reflections.Â
How thick is acoustic insulation?
The required thickness of acoustic insulation varies depending on the material used and the desired level of insulation. Typically, this ranges between 25 and 40 mm.Â
Acoustic insulation: rock wool or glass wool?
Acoustic insulation can be achieved with both stone wool and glass wool. Both materials have an open fibre structure that absorbs sound. However, stone wool generally provides slightly better sound insulation than glass wool. Â
What is the best insulation against sound?
The effectiveness of sound insulation depends on the type of sound and the construction of the space. Materials such as Polyester wool, Cyclin Pure, and Ecosorb Metisse are effective due to their sound-absorbing properties. In addition, special sound-insulating panels and the construction of decoupled stud walls can contribute to better sound insulation. Â
How do you soundproof a wall?
An effective method to insulate a wall against sound is to install a sound-insulating stud wall. This involves placing a frame in front of the existing wall, filled with insulation material such as glass wool, rock wool, or another suitable insulating material. This is then finished with plasterboards. It is important to acoustically decouple the construction using vibration isolation to prevent sound bridges. Â
By applying the right materials and techniques, you can significantly improve the acoustics in the space and minimise unwanted noise disturbance.Â
Custom acoustic insulation
Acoustic materials are often available in standard sizes. At Fibers & Foams, we can custom-make these materials for you. This results in perfectly fitting parts that are ready to use immediately, making the processing simpler and faster. This way, you can get started with insulation right away.Â
Sustainable acoustic insulation
Sustainable insulation combines soundproofing with environmentally friendly properties. The use of materials such as recycled textiles and cellulose insulation not only offers excellent acoustic performance but also contributes to reducing waste and the ecological footprint. Â
Recycled textiles, such as our Ecosorb Metisse sound insulation, are made from old jeans. The cotton insulation is processed into sturdy insulation boards for walls, floors, and ceilings. The material is safe, skin-friendly, and easy to install.Â
Cellulose insulation, such as our Cyclin Puur, is made from recycled paper and cardboard. This sound insulation material offers similar benefits: it reduces noise and heat loss and is easy to apply. With this sustainable solution, you create a quiet, energy-efficient environment without burdening the environment.Â
